When you think about on-the-job accidents and injuries in California, you may not immediately think about office work. While the dangers in an office may not be as scary as those on a construction site, there are many possibilities for injuries lurking in the halls and at the desks of office workers. You do not want to underestimate the risks of your job because that increases the chances you will suffer an injury.

The U.S. Department of Commerce explains many office accidents mirror those in other more dangerous worksites. A good example is falling. A fall can happen pretty much anywhere. They can also be very harmful. Office falls may occur from climbing ladders, walking on slick walkways or tripping over cords.

Another issue is being struck by something. Most office spaces are rather crowded as companies try to fit as many workers as possible into the area. This may lead to hazards, such as shelves, loose materials or other objects that are not properly stored and pose a danger.

Strains are another huge issue in an office environment. Not only typical strains from typing all day but also strains from lifting. If you have to lift boxes of files, you could strain your back. Having to reach on high shelves is another way to cause muscle strain.

Because office work occurs inside, there is also the risk of air pollution issues. If a building lacks proper ventilation, the air quality may suffer. It could lead to increased illnesses and allergies. For people who already have respiratory issues, this could be very serious. This information is for education and is not legal advice.
