Which Jobs Are the Most Dangerous?

Most people don’t realize the amount of physical labor and potential hazards some workers face throughout the country. The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 4,764 fatal work injuries in 2020. Although this number has drastically decreased since 2019, workers throughout the nation are still faced with hazardous conditions in the workplace.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Annual National Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries report reveals the most dangerous jobs in California. Employees that work in these occupations have an increased risk of fatal injuries due to their job duties. Here are the most dangerous jobs according to the report:

  • Construction laborers

  • Truck drivers

  • Aircraft pilots

  • Fishers and hunters

Transportation and Construction Workers Are At Higher Risks

The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Annual National Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries reported that nearly half of all fatal occupational injuries (47.4 percent) were workers in transportation, construction, and extraction occupations. These occupations have the highest fatality rates and involve:

  • Working with heavy and dangerous machinery.

  • Driving for an extended time.

  • Working from dangerous heights.

These workers are more likely to experience a fatal workplace accident that could severely alter their life. Luckily in California, workers’ compensation covers most workplace injuries; however, it’s crucial to discuss your case with a skilled workplace injury attorney to help you obtain the best possible result for your situation.
